Overheard While Hiding From the Sun + Found Poetry at GRIN Gallery

When I fill a notebook, I go back through, gather words and phrases that I haven't already turned into something else, and use them as the first draft of a poem. Sometimes they're phrases that sound good but that I haven't found a place for; sometimes they're things I've read on signs or labels, or heard people say. I have about 35 of these poems now, and some of them have just come out as a chapbook from above/ground press, Overheard While Hiding From the Sun.

I'll be reading from this book, and from the cento booklets I make of past Publicly Complex readings, at:

Finding Poetry in the Existing and Everyday
at the GRIN Gallery in Providence (60 Valley St.,  #3)
on Friday, February 21st, at 7 pm.

Maria Anderson, Martin Elwell, Paul Hostovsky and Amy Pickworth will be reading with me.

I return

I was busy. I went to New Orleans to see my dearest friend. I worked on some writing, and I got my syllabi together for the teaching semester, which has now started.

Rob McClennan interviewed me for his series 12 or 20 Questions, and he also reviewed The Soft Place. Thanks, Rob!

Don't forget to buy Little Eva, the Insomniac from Mars. Send me your receipt and I'll send you something special!

The first Publicly Complex reading of 2013 is on February 9th at 6 pm: Michael Tod Edgerton, whose amazing new book Vitreous Hide is just out from Lavender Ink, and Rachel Levitsky. If you're in the Providence area, you should come!

Transmission from JUPITER 88!

CAConrad's video journal, JUPITER 88, offers up short readings by poets writing now. My video is up today and I'm so pleased to be a cell in the honeycomb!

We did this video before our reading together (with Michelle Taransky and Adam Roberts) in Albany, NY for the Yes! series, at the dining room table of co-organizer and friend Matthew Klane.

This is a particularly great project for those who prefer to hear poetry. Go look and listen -- and then check out some of the other delights. Just before me were Sara Larsen, Kevin Killian, Dodie Bellamy ...
